Welcome to our brand new cooking for kids series ‘Sienna’s Kitchen’.
Teaching kids to cook healthy delicious food is so rewarding, and sets them up with healthy habits for the future. One day our kids will pass these skills onto families of their own.
We hope these easy, fun and delicious recipes help inspire more kids to get cooking in the kitchen with mum, dad or even nana.
Sienna is so excited to share her love of healthy cooking with children all around the world. She is 9 years old and has been busy growing many of her own veggies and herbs over the past few months in our rural garden.
After a bountiful potato harvest we decided to make a big pot of creamy leek and potato soup, which Sienna always calls ‘Potato and Leek Soup’ every time. It is a creamy soup, so tasty, and super easy to make.
4 medium potatoes (peeled and sliced)
1 sliced leek
1 tbsp of dried herbs (parsley and basil)
1 chopped garlic clove
1.5 litres of water
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup of sour cream
We just popped everything in the pot and cooked it together, but to soften the leeks and add an even nicer flavour you can lightly cook the leeks and garlic until they are soft and golden first in a tbsp of olive oil.
Then add the water, potatoes, herbs and a good pinch of salt and pepper. Bring to the boil, and continue to boil until potatoes are very soft and falling apart (30-35 minutes).
So easy! Remove from the heat, blend or mash well until smooth. Add extra salt and pepper to taste, and stir through the sour cream. Serves 3 – 4.
